Newly Crowned Malaysian Beauty Silences Online Haters With Message of Peace and Love
Many of us may recall watching Amelia Henderson in various advertisements and shows on television in the past. She first dabbled in the performing arts scene when she starred in Peter Pan-The Musical at Istana Budaya in 2007 as a 12-year-old. Her television series and dramas include Millennium Child, Warna Ungu, A Tropical Christmas, Keluarga Adam, Jangan Benci Cintaku and the popular educational comedy series, Oh My English!
Amelia, now aged 23, recently made Malaysia proud when she won the Asian Model category of the Asia Model Festival 2019 in Seoul, South Korea. The stunning beauty of Indian and Scottish parentage, in her acceptance speech said, “Never forget where you came from. Thank you Asia Model Festival for the award.”
Her humility drew overwhelming response (over 1,000 comments!) from fellow Malaysians on her Instagram post. “Very proud of you Amelia. You make a great ambassador for Malaysia. Tahniah!” said Laura. She was also congratulated by many Malaysian celebrities and public figures – renowned Malaysian model, Amber Chia, posted, “Congratulations and happy for you”.
What deserves special mention is how Amelia stood up to racist comments on social media claiming that she should not represent Malaysia as she is not of Malay descent. A member of Mensa International with an IQ of 180, the beauty with brains, literally, nailed it with her articulate response below:
(Hats off, Amelia!)
As a young ballerina, Amelia gained a one-week scholarship to the Cecchetti International Residential Summer Ballet School in Melbourne, Australia where she received the President’s Award at the Dance Society of Malaysia’s 14th Solo Classical Ballet Competition in 2009. She was also the Malaysian representative at the 15th Asia Pacific Dance Competition 2013 in Philippines. Apart from modelling, Amelia continues to remain active in the entertainment industry, she still does voice-overs and commercials.
