How A Daughter’s Kindness Inspired Her Mother’s Generosity
It started off like a regular day for Carrie Jernigan when she went shopping with her kids to the local mall. Little did she know that her daughter had other plans.
As they were shopping at Payless Shoe Store, her daughter surprised her with a question – ‘There is a boy in my class that loves Avengers, and his shoes are too small. Could you buy him these?’
Carrie was more than willing to pay for it. She did not hesitate to buy the entire stock of shoes which surprised the cashier.
“As I was checking out I just said ‘how much for the rest of the shoes in the store,’ almost joking, and I could see the clerk’s face, her wheels started to turn, and she finished checking me out. She said ‘can I have your number?”, Carrie told KFSM.
True enough, the district manager contacted Jernigan and told her the entire cost for the rest of the shoes. Carrie immediately jumped at the opportunity to purchase them.
The lawyer and mother ended up taking home nearly $21,000 worth of merchandise. Since her purchase in May, she has donated the shoes to the needy. In fact, she has plans to give away 1,100 shoes to kids and local schools in her community. Homeless adults and ones in need are also on Carrie’s list!
“If you ask [my kids] what they want to be when they grow up, they say be kind-and so I don’t care what they do in life as long as they are kind and good people.”
“This just reiterates to me that their hearts are in the right place, and if it’s in the right place they can do amazing things, ” she added.
