Disney Does Malaysia Right In Its New YouTube Series!
By Archana Patrick and John Tan
In its latest series ‘Mickey Go Local’, Disney celebrates Malaysian culture by featuring our local food, clothes and architecture. (How cool is that?!)
In ‘Master Hawker’, the first episode in the series, Mickey Mouse makes and sells satay while Donald Duck is seen tossing a roti canai in the air at a hawker stall. (Unbelievable, right?!)
It gets better as this is only a sneak peek for what’s to come!
The pilot episode is a part of an upcoming six part series by Disney. The programme will be the first of its kind to be produced in the region.
“We are committed to creating locally appealing stories that are relevant to our fans. The Mickey Go Local animated shorts are the first time our beloved characters are seen enjoying Southeast Asia’s charms, providing heartwarming moments for kids and families”, said Amit Malhotra, the regional lead of the Walt Disney Company as reported in Star2.com.
“We are excited to work with an exceptional group of local creative talent from Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines to bring the animated series to life,” he added.
Upon release of the pilot episode, the series has been gaining praises for promoting our local culture. One user wrote, “Thank you, Disney for showing Malaysian culture! I’m a proud Malaysian.”
Another user commented, “This is awesome… love it! More of this, please!”. Well, brace yourself as new episodes are in store. In fact, these new episodes will be released monthly until January 2020.
Fans can catch their favourite Disney characters going Malaysian on Disney Channel Asia’s YouTube page.
