Step It Up And Celebrate Diversity With Locally-Inspired “Nasi Lemak” Sneakers!
It is no secret that Malaysians love their nasi lemak! This national dish has been the centre of creative creations from gourmet food to creative outfits.
This time, Asics Malaysia in collaboration with retail store Hundred% and sneaker event SneakerLAH is paying homage to our national dish through heritage-inspired sneakers!
Yup, you heard that right!
The limited edition version of the new nasi lemak-inspired ‘GEL-Kayano 5’ footwear features vibrant colours of Malaysia’s breakfast dish – chilli red, yellow egg yolk, nutty brown and shades of green cucumber.
“What we love about the shoe colourway re-design is that; it centres around the nasi lemak which is a dish that everyone likes and a societal knot that all Malaysians can relate to and instantly love.
“Through this shoe, we hope to share with everyone that feeling of unity, and to spread the love to all corners of the globe.” said Asics Malaysia country manager Boon Tib Soon Nik according to The Malay Mail.
Thus far, the stylish pair of shoes have been well received among Netizens (some even jokingly commented if the sambal was spicy!)
Sneaker lovers, take note! Only 500 pairs are available for grabs at the upcoming SneakerLAH event to be held on October 5 and October 6 at Mid Valley Megamall. The sneakers are unfortunately not available for sale online or in-stores.
Any guesses on the price of a pair of these heritage-inspired sneakers? It costs RM599!
Well done, Asics Malaysia for spreading our diverse Malaysian heritage in yet another unique way!
