MODA, Fashion Valet And IMARET Unite To Contribute PPE For Frontliners
Together with Southeast Asia’s premier online destination for Asian fashion brands, FashionValet and the Islamic Medical Association of Malaysia response and relief team (IMARET), members of the Malaysian Official Designers’ Association (MODA) are using their pattern making skills to make much-needed PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) gowns for healthcare professionals across the country.

MODA President, Melinda Looi said the fashion fraternity has joined the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic by taking the pledge to make hospital gowns for as long as they are needed during the crisis.
An online campaign called MODA for Frontliners – PPE Fundraising, raises funds for materials to make PPE gowns and distribution to healthcare centres for use by frontliners in hospitals.
Working in partnership with Fashion Valet, each roll of material costs RM3,800 and is enough for around 600 gowns. The Islamic Medical Association of Malaysia (IMARET) also pitched in to assist in the distribution of PPE gowns to the network of hospitals throughout the nation.
Having driven into action after receiving many calls and messages from local fashion designers, Melinda joined forces with other prominent fashion designers such as Alia Bastamam, Khoon Hooi, Key Ng, Celest Thoi and Innai Red. Thoi also helped distribute latex gloves, shoe covers and masks to Hospital Kuala Lumpur and health clinics in the Klang Valley on behalf of MODA.
As reported in the News Straits Times, fashion designer, Datuk Radzuan Radzwill was inspired to contribute after learning about some hospital staff who had to stitch their own PPE garments. With the help of a doctor from Serdang Hospital, Datuk Radzuan Radziwill makes 50 PPE gowns daily.
Kudos to our local fashion designers for stepping up and giving back to the community!
