Adventures of ‘Oyen’- The Rapid KL Cat
Cats seem to have a knack for getting themselves (and people around them, as most cat owners can attest to) into all sorts of comic situations. Curious and stubborn creatures, most people who try telling a cat “NO” soon learn that cats, while intelligent, also tend to have selective hearing- as this Rapid KL driver discovered.
Facebook User, Apai Wanakashie, showed us just how persistent cats can be. A video posted on his Facebook page showed a particularly determined ginger cat (called ‘Oyen’) who really wanted to use the bus.
The video opens with Oyen waiting at the bus stop before proceeding to board the empty bus. On a friendly greeting from Apai, Oyen proceeds to have a long ‘conversation’ with him, requesting a lift. It went something like this:
Driver: Ye Encik Oyen, nak pergi mana? Eh(Mr. Oyen, where would you like to go?)
Oyen: *MAO*
Driver: Eh, awak tak boleh naik! (Eh, you can’t board!)
Oyen: *MAO*
Driver: Nak pergi mana? (Where do you want to go?)
Oyen: *MAO*
Driver: KLCC?
Oyen: *MAO*
Driver: KLCC dah tutup lah. (KLCC is closed lah.)

Not one to take no for an answer, Oyen proceeded to stroll further onto the bus, ignoring calls of “Hey! Mask awak mana, awak tak scan! (Hey! Where’s your mask, you haven’t scanned either!)”. On following Oyen further into the bus, Oyen is seen making itself comfy on the bus stairs, with the conversation continuing,
Driver: Awak pergi mana? Aduh.(Where are you going? Sheesh.)
Oyen: *Meowwww*

When Oyen’s pleas fail to move Apai, Oyen proceeds to take a leaf out of Puss in Boot’s book- and acts manja. Unfortunately for Oyen, while acting all cute and cuddly does get him some pets and scritches, it tries and fails to convince Apai to give it a lift. Their conversation continues with Oyen continuing to argue its case, while Apai points out that Oyen doesn’t even have a mask on!

Oyen: Oh, come ON! (He’s just trying to keep you safe Oyen, we’re in the middle of a pandemic!)
The great bus debacle ends with Oyen finally getting the hint and exiting the bus, accompanied by Apai chuckling the whole way. It’s not entirely a sad ending for Oyen though as Apai, feeling bad for the rejection, made up for it by getting some food for Oyen and its friends.
This chain of events also got the attention of Rapid KL, who shared the video on their Facebook page, reassuring Oyen that it could still use the LRT if it needed to get around.

Rapid KL captioned the video reassuring Oyen: “Jangan bersedih wahai Oyen. Kalau abang kapten bas ni tak nak bawak Oyen naik bas pergi KLCC, kita pergi naik LRT ok?” (Don’t be sad Oyen. If this bus captain doesn’t want to give Oyen a lift to KLCC, we’ll go on the LRT okay?) (Source: Rapid KL Facebook)
