Last Saturday, 29th May 2021, when most Malaysians were in a state of frenzy after the latest MCO (Movement Control Order) announcement made by the government, a group of like-minded individuals set out, ahead of the lockdown, to distribute ‘hearty bites’ around the Klang Valley. Free Food Society (Persatuan Makanan Ehsan) made this high-priority decision on Friday night.

With time constraints, numerous roadblocks, not to mention the sweltering heat on that day, Free Food Society successfully distributed 500 cartons of biscuits to homes, community centres, and vulnerable communities.

The distribution team, including drivers and volunteers set out in 5 vehicles, covering various locations in Kuala Lumpur, and adjoining areas in Selangor, also continued their labour for community service throughout Sunday.

Free Food Society is a non-profit NGO which was incorporated in March 2021, three months ago, with the aim of rendering help to the needy community.

GoodNews contacted Fadillah Mohd Yakin, a council member of Free Food Society, and a driving force behind this project.

“The team made deliveries to 27 community centres and mobilisers around the region, and for this I would like to express a heartfelt thanks to Raja Singham, Project Coordinator of this drive, and Founder and Managing Director of BAC Education Group, for managing the logistics of this campaign.”

Below is the detailed list of homes/organisations/communities the Volunteer Teams delivered to:

Efforts such as this no doubt paves the way for more initiatives to help communities in need.

Sri, a sales consultant who volunteered, said,

“It was a good experience, as I got to witness how small deeds like donating biscuits could be of big help to those in need. It was also nice to see people of different walks of life being actively engaged in community outreach programs. I am indeed glad to be part of this.”

Community service and engagement, especially in times like this, if looked at in a different perspective, gives us the opportunity to reflect on ourselves and our blessings.
