Car enthusiasts are always brought up to date with the latest cars and the newest innovations. This car enthusiast from the UK managed to steal the spotlight in Malaysia after purchasing an old Proton Saga.
The rarity and historical value of the car is undeniable. It is the national car of Malaysia and one that made many sweet memories as a major milestone in the Malaysia automotive industry.
Two Youtubers in the UK shared their joy through the video after one of them purchased a 28-year-old Proton Saga. The video uploaded by classic car enthusiast Matt from ‘furiousdriving’ is 25-minutes long and managed to go viral nationwide in just a few days.
The video highlighted the pristine condition of the car. It is apparent that the previous owner took great care of it. What was even shocking was that the car only had a mileage of 10,000 miles (16,093km).
“It is like a new car from 20 years ago,” he said.
“I am told, the gentleman who owned this car, only drove it very sparingly and SORN (Statutory Off-Road Notification) it in 2010,” he said, adding the year was “the last time it moved”.
Matt also stated that the vehicle was built strong and that it was the default taxi in Malaysia. The buyer in the video was also a car enthusiast herself, called Steph from ‘idriveaclassic’.
It can be seen in the video that the both of them meet up in front of the garage to review and inspect the Proton Saga. Once the old battery was switched, the engine fired up with a roar, almost as if it was new.
It was not much a challenge for the two for their ‘barn find’ adventure.
“I am genuinely disappointed that this wasn’t a more challenging startup video, but at the same time, extremely relieved the car is as good as it actually is,” said Matt.
While Steph cheekily said in her video that, “It simply ticks all the boxes, suspicious.”
Matt then became the first person to drive the car in a decade. The Saga was revving with decade-old petrol!
Satisfied with her purchase, Steph mentioned that “Everyone in Malaysia is so jealous of me.”
Their little adventure definitely sparked great response from the internet in a short span of time.
