A septuagenarian woman who was thought to be dead, woke up moments before she was cremated.
According to India Today, Shakuntala Gaikwad, 78, had tested positive for the Covid-19 virus and was initially isolated at home, in Baramati, Mudhale, India.
When she started to show severe symptoms, family members called an ambulance to take her to the hospital.
As they struggled to find a bed for her at the packed hospital, Gaikwad fell unconscious in the ambulance, and was later declared dead by the medical staff.
Gaikwad was later taken back to her home where the family started preparing for her cremation and last rites.
Just moments before the cremation took place, Shakuntala woke up on her own funeral bier and started to cry and panic.
Shakuntala had been taken back to the hospital for further treatment.
India is still reporting more than 4,000 daily deaths, as a new strain of the virus first found there fueled a surge in infections that has risen to more than 400,000 cases daily.
India’s total cases since the epidemic struck more than a year ago, will eventually pass the 25 million mark, over the next few days. Total deaths are at 274,390.
