CovidFund.my was set up in August 2021 by BAC Education and its CSR arm, the Make it Right Movement, working in partnership with Rotary District 3300 and Yayasan Kelab-Kelab Rotary Malaysia.

It was a timely move, as Malaysia reported a record 24,599 new cases on Aug 26, the highest number since the onset of the pandemic.

Hospitals around the country are reeling from the sheer growth in new cases which is exactly what CovidFund.my was created to address.

Hospitals have an urgent need for life-saving medical equipment and other medical supplies to battle the unprecedented Covid-19 pandemic crisis.

Its single-minded focus is to quickly raise RM1 million for the immediate procurement and delivery of critical medical supplies to these hospitals. In just one month the fund has raised an amazing RM420,000.

The Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang, the Serdang Hospital, the Kuala Lumpur Hospital, the Selayang Hospital, the Ampang Hospital, the Kajang Hospital, Jabatan Kesihatan Negeri Sabah, and various government health clinics have all benefited from the fund’s immediate delivery of life-saving medical equipment and other essential medical supplies.

Oxygen concentrators, ventilators, syringe pumps, portable suction units and many other essential supplies have brought an immediate impact in helping them cope with the situation on ground. This has given hope, and a morale boost, to all these hospitals and their medical frontliners to continue their tireless dedication in helping save lives.

While the critical situation in the Klang valley has tapered, the pandemic is not over yet. CovidFund.my continues its mission and is now focusing on responding to the calls from hospitals outside the Klang valley, especially in Sabah, Kedah and Penang where the situation is getting more dire and urgent.

Raja Singham, BAC Education, said the initiative was started as it was part of their duty to help fellow Malaysians.

“There are many who were finding it hard to find space in hospitals which were beyond capacity. In the true spirit of #KitaJagaKita, we need to support our medical frontliners, doctors and hospitals in any way we can – whether it’s additional equipment, supplies or medication,” he said.

He also called for corporations and members of the public to “come together for the sake of our nation and our people by partnering with CovidFund.”

Since the start of the pandemic, CovidFund’s partners Rotary District 3300 and the Yayasan Kelab-Kelab Rotary Malaysia have been on the ground assisting relief efforts to support our frontliners.

According to Rotary Past District Governor of Malaysia Siti Subaidah, CovidFund.my further enforces their commitment to address the emergency needs of hospitals managing Covid-19 patients and safeguarding our medical frontliners.

“We are working in collaboration with corporations to ensure we continue to serve those in need and support our nation‟s Covid-19 recovery efforts,” she said.

Despite ongoing nationwide vaccination programmes aimed at reaching herd immunity for the entire country, hospitals and medical frontliners are still on the alert as the Covid-19 pandemic is still very real and needs ongoing support.

Daily statistics clearly indicate a continuing battle across the nation and the emergence of new variants of the virus can trigger an outbreak at any moment, anywhere, if we let our guard down just for a few seconds. Likewise, hospitals and frontliners still have to be, armed and ready to carry on the battle to save lives.

The call now is to keep the fund going and achieve the targeted RM1 million.
