What is The Global Day of Parents?

On September 17, 2012, the United Nations declared that the Global Day of Parents would be celebrated on June 1 each year to recognize the vital role of parents in providing protection and positive development of children. The United Nations also noted that parents of every race, religion, culture, and nationality in all parts of the world were the primary caregivers and teachers of their children. In other words, it provides an opportunity to appreciate all parents for their “selfless commitment to children and their lifelong sacrifice towards nurturing this relationship.”

Every single one of us – we are all someone’s child! Some of us are parents and have our own children. Being able to spend time with our children, at home, for hours and with few distractions is considered a huge privilege.

According to the United Nations, the first 1,000 days of life is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to build a baby’s brain and shape a child’s ability to learn and grow. Parents want to give their children the best they can. Yet, many have no choice but to work long hours, often away from home, to support their families and give their children the best start in life.

Parenting in the Pandemic

Having fear and uncertainty in isolation to slow the spread of COVID-19 can be tough for families to maintain a sense of calm. School closures, working remotely, physical distancing — it’s a lot to navigate for anyone, even more for parents. It is equally important to help your child feel safe, stick to healthy routines, manage behaviour, and build resilience.

A New State of Being for Parents

“Behind every young child who believes in themselves is a parent who believed first” – Matthew Jacobson.

We want to thank you, parents, for believing in your children and offering the commitment to bring them up as responsible citizens of the world. These are unprecedented times and your unconditional love and commitment towards your children makes all the difference.

We come together to celebrate every parent around the world this Global Day of Parents. Thanks to all the moms and dads for being our teachers, chefs, dance partners, co-workers, and best friends, too!
