The struggle of two national athletes at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, China has come to a halt. Despite that, it was definitely a historic moment for Malaysia as the two managed to compete on the prestigious stage.
At this Winter Olympics, national alpine skier Jeffrey Webb’s dream of going far failed when he fell at the start of the Run 1 race causing him to fail to continue the challenge.
Jeffrey, who made his second appearance on the Olympic stage after making his debut in the 2018 edition in PyeongChang, South Korea, however, did not give up, and even determined to do his best in the next edition.
“Thank you to everyone for this opportunity. I hope to continue again in the future,” said Jeffrey.
Previously, the country’s female skater, Aruwin Salehhuddin, 17, made history by emerging as the first Malaysian female athlete to make an appearance at the Winter Olympics and finished the women’s giant slalom challenge in the top 40 on February 7.
Meanwhile, the head of the national contingent, Moira Tan, said that his party was proud of Jeffrey’s appearance because he had done his best, but fate was not on his side.
“Jeffrey has tried his best but luck is not on his side. We thank them both for flying the Jalur Gemilang at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.
“We hope Jeffrey will continue to train hard and come back stronger at the upcoming Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics,” Moira said.
