In the true spirit of a multi-racial society, a recent video of a Malay and Chinese aunty speaking fluent Tamil has captured the attention of social media users.
The video on TikTok carried the caption – “To celebrate Diwali, here’s a video of my mum (a Malay) and a Chinese auntie that she met at Turkey airport speaking Tamil.”

It was posted by the daughter of the Malay aunty, Aina who said the video was actually a throwback of their trip to Turkey back in 2018.
She said she and her mother had seen a group of Chinese aunties checking in at the airport and decided to approach them.
Aina said she spoke to them in Mandarin and the aunties were so impressed and asked if her mother could also.
“I told them my mum could speak in Tamil and one of the Chinese aunties began speaking to her in Tamil and I recorded the conversation between two Malaysians in Turkey,” she said.
She said her mum learned to speak Tamil as she was raised in an estate area filled with multi-racial families.
Netizens said they were truly touched and that the video warmed their hearts.
The video also caught the attention of the Chinese auntie’s daughter. She said, “that’s my mum. I will record more videos of her speaking Tamil. We are from Kelantan, if you would like to speak Kelantanese just go for it,” she said.
