As Malaysians, we often feel very proud and excited when we gain acknowledgement or recognition from citizens of other countries, considering how small Malaysia is on the map.
Moreover, as speakers of the Malay language, it is much more surprising and fascinating when we hear non-Malaysians speak the language.
Recently, Malaysians were blown away by a video on Twitter, showcasing a group of Japanese students speaking fluent Malay. The video captured the response of the Japanese students when being asked why did they like Malaysia.
At the centre of attention, the Japanese students from Tokyo Foreign University stunned the audience with their linguistic abilities when it came to conversing in Malay.
It is apparent that the Tokyo Foreign University offers its students the option of learning the Malay language as part of its courses.
