After reports that about 10,000 residents in Kelantan, mostly above 60, failed to show up for their Covid-19 shot, Malaysians expressed their dismay on social media.
It got worse when more Malaysians expressed dissatisfaction when they were unable to get their AstraZeneca vaccine through the MySejahtera application a day before the report from Kelantan came out.
However, last Sunday, a 105 -year -old man who came to a vaccination center to get an injection, provided a different perspective, to sceptics.
Jaafar Awang Mat, is believed to be the oldest individual to have received the vaccine in Malaysia, so far.
The picture of the century – old senior citizen holding the ‘I have been vaccinated’ poster shared by netizens since last Monday, comes from Kampung Pulong in Kubang Kerian, Kelantan.
The man received his first dose of the vaccine at vaccination centre (PPV) at Dewan Sri Tanjung, Kelantan State Education Department (JPN), Kota Bharu last Sunday.
According to his granddaughter Noor Azriena Syamsuri Md Nor, anti-vaxxers tried to influence her grandfather to not take the vacciner, as they deemed it was ‘life-threatening’.
However, the senior citizen remained positive and to avoid the ill effects of the killer virus, he decided to take the injection.
