More than two million vehicles are expected to hit PLUS Malaysia highways between April 29 and May 9 in conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations.
PLUS chief operating officer, Datuk Zakaria Ahmad Zabidi said they expected many to take the opportunity to “balik kampung” after two years of restricted celebrations.
“The highways are expected to be congested, so please be prepared for prolonged durations of travel.
“PLUS has made thorough preparations through a set of proactive approaches, including increasing PLUSRonda patrol team to provide assistance to customers and stranded vehicles on the highway,” he said.
The number of PLUSRonda patrol teams have also been increased to 520 teams, which would enable them to raise their patrol frequency, especially at critical stretches. We are also aware that any possible broken down and stranded vehicles on the highway would impact the traffic movement.
Zakaria said PLUS will also place tow trucks and cranes at critical locations on the highway to facilitate and speed up the process of removing these stranded vehicles, especially at climbing areas.
“Highway users are also advised to abide by the instructions given through the signages placed at contra flow designated locations.
“Emergency and rescue teams such as the Fire and Rescue Department and St John Ambulance will be on standby at strategic toll plazas.
“They will be deployed to the incident locations immediately when required”.
He said some 500 members of the emergency response team (ERT) will also be on standby at highways to provide assistance.
Apart from the highways, he said, PLUS would also focus more on the traffic flow and highway customers’ comfort at toll plazas and rest areas.
