For the first time since Dec 18, 2020, Malaysia reported zero deaths from Covid-19 yesterday.
Announcing this on Twitter, Health Minister, Khairy Jamaluddin said the ongoing transition to endemicity has been calibrated and data-driven.
“Let us pray it continues paying off,” he said.
Meanwhile, Deputy Health Minister Datuk Dr Noor Azmi Ghazali has urged parents to take the opportunity and get their children vaccinated during a five-day vaccination drive from June 20 – 24.
He said interested parents could take their children aged between 5 and 11 to health clinics under the Health Ministry, without having to make an appointment.
“This vaccination drive is to cater to parents who now wish to get the Covid-19 vaccine for children who missed the opportunity before. Vaccination is based on the supply at the facilities, and should the stock for the day run out, parents can bring their children the next day,” he said.
Parents could, however, still make appointment bookings for their children who will be turning five, according to the date and place suitable through the MySejahtera application.
The National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme for Children (PICKids), which was launched on Feb 3 for children aged five to 11, ended on May 31
Since its launch, a total 1,737,117 children have received at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine and 1,286,790 children or 36.2 per cent have completed two doses.
