National track cycling star, Nurul Izzah Izzati Mohd Asri carved a historical moment when she won the gold medal in the 500 meters time trial event at the Asian Track Cycling Championships in New Delhi, today.
The 19-year-old made her name as the first Malaysian woman to win gold at the tournament when she clocked a time of 35.499 second (s) at the Indira Gandhi Complex Velodrome, New Delhi.
Trailing behind Nurul Izzah is Kim Bomi of South Korea, who came in second with a time of 36.374s, while host representative Mayuri Dhanaraj was in third place with a time of 36.481s.
Meanwhile, Olympic rider Muhammad Shah Firdaus Shahrom won the silver medal in the men’s keirin final after trailing Japanese rider Kohei Teraski, and the bronze medal went to Kazakhstan rider Sergey Ponomaryov.
Another national keirin rider, Fadhli Zonis was only able to finish the race in seventh place.
