Students have quickly adapted to change their mode of studying to an online one after the onslaught of the Covid-19 Pandemic.
One issue often faced by these students is staying focused during these online lessons.
Virtual classes can be tough but worry not, here are few tips to help you focus during online learning;
Avoid Social Media
With the attention span of a goldfish, it’s easy to get distracted by your phone. The consistent notification alerts and the many times your screen lights up, is designed to draw attention from whatever you are doing. You can put your phone on silent or airplane mode, or use screen time limits for the apps that you frequently use. Try going on social media only during breaks or as a means of motivation when completing certain tasks.
To-do list
Sometimes we do experience a lack of memory like Dory from Finding Nemo. This is where a to-do list comes in handy. Keep an updated list and check them off as you go. List all of the assignments that need to be completed and in order of which is most time-consuming when prioritising where to begin. This way you will avoid wasting time and know exactly what to do.
Clear Off Your Desk
Normally, your school and study time might be split between the classrooms, the library, coffee shops, friends’ dorms, and your own desk but now your desk is an essential part of learning.
Making your desk space clean, comfortable, and tidy will make it much easier to stay there for longer periods and finish a lecture or paper. Use some free time to get rid of the clutter on your desk, and replace it with a few trinkets or photographs that make you feel inspired.
Take a Break
For any student, taking a break between classes is essential. A student should not push oneself to sit for long hours for virtual classes.
During these breaks ensure that you stretch your legs and back. Make sure that the break does not involve screen time of any sort.
Fuel up
Fuel up with snacks. Just as it’s hard to focus while sleepy, it is difficult to focus while hungry. Try protein-focused snacks like nuts or fruits and avoid candy or sweets that will give you a sugar rush. The right food will help you focus and retain information easier.
