A renowned sculptor, Kenny Hunter recently previewed his latest works, done in appreciation of all the sacrifices and hard work put in by healthcare frontliners during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Hunter, a Professor of Sculpture at Edinburgh College of Art, produced the specially commissioned sculpture, titled “Your Next Breath”, which depicts four life size figures in scrubs in a moment of reflection at the end of a shift in a Covid-19 hospital ward.
“This remarkable piece of art is a fitting tribute to these medical frontliners worldwide, including Malaysia, as they continue to provide their dedication and commitment to serve their communities,” said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
The sculpture, which captures their mixture of emotions amid tough times, was initially modelled in clay before being made into its current resin form.
Hunter conceptualised his design after spending time with four medical workers who were posted to Covid-19 wards. Its title highlights the impact of the virus on the respiratory system and how the pandemic has affected the world and the people.
Dr Noor Hisham said the nation has witnessed the sacrifices, contributions and the efforts of the medical workers throughout the pandemic.
“The medical workforce has gone above and beyond, taking care of patients in an unprecedented situation while putting themselves and their families at risk,” he added.
