Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, has approved an initial allocation of RM1 million for the KASIH Rahmah Wanita Fund.

The allocation is to help women in desperate situations such as victims of domestic violence and women neglected by their families.

He made the announcement while speaking at the 2023 International Women's Day Celebration Ceremony at Dewan Perdana Felda, Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday.

"The Kasih Rahmah Wanita fund is proposed by the ministry, this includes some specific and urgent issues that are not included in KASIH (the theme of the 2023 International Women's Day Celebration).

"The Ministry requests that we provide a small initial allocation of money so that immediate assistance can be provided.

"I approved RM1 million for that purpose," he said in the speech.

Also present at the ceremony were the Prime Minister's wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail; Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri; and the Minister of Education, Fadhlina Sidek.

According to Anwar, the implementation of the fund is expected to encourage more parties to carry out corporate social responsibility so that more women's empowerment programs can be improved.

The Prime Minister also agreed to provide an initial allocation of RM500,000 to the Social Institute of Malaysia (ISM) under the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development.

According to him, the provision is to enable research efforts to be carried out to empower women in Malaysia.

"In addition, there is also corporate social responsibility (CSR) and anti-sexual harassment advocacy presented (in Parliament).

"I believe my fellow Members of Parliament will pay attention," he said.
