The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah has agreed to appoint the Chairman of Pakatan Harapan (PH), Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as the nation’s 10th Prime Minister.
Comptroller of the Royal Household for Istana Negara Datuk Seri Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin, stated said that the appointment was made by Al-Sultan Abdullah after refining the views of the fellow Malay Rulers (Raja-raja Melayu).
"During a special discussion session that started at 11 this morning, His Majesty was pleased to speak to the Malay Rulers about the process of appointing a new Prime Minister following the 15th General Election (GE-15) on 19 November.
"The special discussion is also intended for the King to collect the views of the Malay Rulers to enable him to make the best decision for the interests and well-being of the country and the people.
"The process is to enable His Majesty to make a decision to appoint a member of the Dewan Rakyat who in His Majesty's opinion may gain the trust of the majority of members of the Dewan Rakyat as Prime Minister in accordance with Article 40(1)(a) and Article 43(2)(a) of the Federal Constitution," he said in a statement today.
He said, the next process will be the Ceremony of Awarding the Deed of Appointment and the Ceremony of Taking the Oath of Office and Loyalty as well as the Oath of Secrecy as Prime Minister, which is scheduled to take place at 5pm this evening at Istana Negara.
“Like frogs, we are linked together, reaching out to each other to close ranks again among all the members of the Dewan Rakyat for the future of our beloved country," he said.
He stated that His Majesty also emphasized that this country is like an inheritance with leaders as trustees who need to be taken care of because they will be inherited by the young generation who will lead the country to the pinnacle of success.
"The fact is, the people should not be burdened with endless political turmoil when the country needs a stable government to boost the country's economic landscape and development," he said.
According to him, members of the Dewan Rakyat who have been elected by people are also reminded to show solidarity by giving priority, high commitment and the best service to their constituents and the citizens as a whole.
"His Majesty also expressed his utmost appreciation for the continuous support of the Malay Rulers in fulfilling his responsibilities as a Constitutional King based on the greatness of the Federal Constitution and the greatness of the law.
"The Malay Rulers also support His Majesty's stand for the formation of a stable government as soon as possible following GE-15 through a careful and careful process and in-depth observation.
"His Majesty expressed his gratitude to Allah SWT and called on the people to remain steadfast and calm and pray together that the country will always be blessed, blessed and under the protection of Allah SWT, away from any disaster and calamity," he said.
