Since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Movement Control Order (MCO) was implemented to curb the spreading of the virus.
Whilst it is a great measure, the downside of the MCO is unemployment leading to financial struggles and even starvation for some who could not afford ingredients.
Luckily, there is a food bank in Petaling Jaya that is offering basic necessities for those in need.
kEATchen is a food delivery service in Malaysia that focuses on supporting local gourmet street food operators. Recently, the company has set up a food bank to help those who are facing a tough time putting food on the table.
Those who are in need are able to pick up basic ingredients such as rice, eggs, potatoes, sugar, milk and cooking oil. Apart from that, the company offers sanitary pads and face masks as well, said founder Ivan Chan.
“Food items will be placed at cabinet numbers 25, 24, 23, 22, and 21. Feel free to pick the items yourself… I am more than happy to help. No one has to know and I will pretend it never happened. What’s understood never has to be explained,” he said on a post on Facebook.
We are now going through another Lockdown. If you are not working/not getting a paycheck/struggling to make ends meet…

The recent initiative has been rather popular, and many have shown up to collect items from the food bank. In fact, two truckloads worth of supplies were instantly emptied out due to the massive crowd.
With that being said, the company have implemented standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure discipline and to curb the spread of Covid-19. As such, the company has since limited collection hours to twice a day.
