She suffered two miscarriages and also other health issues, but that did not stop her from getting her PhD.
Recently, Nur Liyana Sulaiman, 36, said she continued her studies in 2012 and though it took her nine years, she completed her Software Engineering at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM).
There were times when the Kedahan almost quit, especially when she contracted Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) in 2013.
This caused her to make frequent trips to the hospital until she gradually recovered in 2019.
“Every year I was hospitalised and warded due to MRSA, at the same time I had to focus on studying. I had many times thought of quitting (studying) because I didn’t have the will to go to the hospital.
“My motivation suffered. However, the support from my husband and family gave me the strength,” she said after the 65th UTM Convocation Ceremony in Johor Bahru, recently.
Nur Liyana, who is pregnant and a few days away from giving birth to her third child, attended the convocation accompanied by her husband Azri Amin Che Din, 37, and family members.
She said the sweat and tears to finish her nine-year studies were now worth it after getting the scroll.
