So, just how happy are you living in Malaysia?
Well, according to the World Happiness Report (WHR) 2021, the Covid-19 pandemic has left many Malaysians feeling “not too happy” last year.
The pandemic had affected everyone’s happiness and overall quality of life, leaving Malaysia placed 81st in the overall standings with a score of 5,384.
Finland continued to top the list with the high levels of trust in the country contributing to its overall happiness score of 7,842.
Other countries topping the list include Denmark, Switzerland, Iceland and Netherlands.
Last year, Malaysia was ranked one spot lower at 82nd.
Singapore continued to be the happiest country in the region despite dropping a spot, while Thailand came second (in the region) at 54th spot.
The Philippines was third in the region at 61st spot overall, marking a considerable drop from last year’s 52nd position, while Vietnam ranked 79th worldwide.
Other Southeast Asian countries such as Indonesia, Laos, Cambodia, and Myanmar ranked lower than Malaysia at numbers 82, 100, 114, and 126 respectively.
The countries which took the last five spots among 149 nations are Lesotho (145), Botswana (146), Rwanda (147), Zimbabwe (148) and Afghanistan at the bottom.
