The best part about an award-winning project is its potential to contribute to a better future not just for the environment but also for the society. This is what young Malaysians, Kuan Weiking and Theodore Garvindeo Seah, hoped to achieve with their eco-friendly fridge called KUNO.

A unique fridge that runs without electricity, KUNO is a sustainable and eco-friendly addition to any household or office space. Inspired by popular Malaysian water pitcher made out of earth clay, Labu Sayong, it is designed to keep fruits, vegetables and other perishables fresh compared to leaving them out in a hot and dry climate. In fact, the use of natural resources and traditional methods reduces carbon footprints in the environment.

The best part about this invention? There is a designated space for you to grow edible plants! By watering your plant daily, the mechanism powering the fridge functions at its optimal level.
Speaking about the reason behind their invention, the duo said it would address the lack of access to electricity in poverty-stricken regions.
Having won RM10,000 for being the National Winners, their invention is currently in the running to be shortlisted in the International top 20 for the titles of International Winner and International Runner-up.
In future, the duo hopes to stimulate the cottage industry by creating job opportunities among local pottery makers to produce KUNO.
Congratulations, Kuan Weiking and Theodore Garvindeo Seah on your noble invention!
